In April 2022, our client R&M Forwarding moved to their new state-of-the-art warehouse at the Dutch Fresh Port in Ridderkerk. 2makeITwork provided the entire 15,000m2 building with ICT.

15,000m2 cold warehouse

2makeITwork has been taking care of ICT & web development for R&M Forwarding for years. This logistics service provider previously had 2 locations, 1 in Schiedam and 1 in Ridderkerk. In 2020, they decided to develop a new location, in the vibrant heart of the AGF sector: Dutch Fresh Port in Ridderkerk.

Naturally, we said a resounding YES to the question of whether we could fully equip this warehouse with a full covering wifi network, segmented internal networks for customers and drivers and much more! A very cool challenge to provide a conclusive solution to fit this modern property. #challengeaccepted

Ice-cold specifications

  • Total site area is 30,000m2
  • Conditioned space of 15,000m2 with room for 9,500 pallet spaces
  • Conditioned packing/unpacking area 6,500m2
  • 2,600m2 of miscellaneous office space dedicated to customers
  • A covered wifi network with 180 Ubiquiti access points
  • VLAN management via 30 kilometers of data cabling
  • A 1GB fiber-optic connection via Eurofiber
  • 5G backup connection over KPN’s mobile network
  • 20Gbps fiber optic backbone distributed across 6 Layer 3 Fibre Aggregration Core Switches for maximum throughput

Never offline

A cold warehouse of these dimensions should never be offline, because then business stagnates and that costs money! That is way particular attention has been paid to connectivity and monitoring.

We proactively balance and monitor the network via network aggregation, an internal fiber-optic ring between the various patch rooms. We deploy an Argumented Reality Switch management tool for quick inspection of the network. In addition, network security is guaranteed via DNS security. Want to know more?

Web development

In addition to website development and marketing assistance, 2makeITwork also offers various development solutions.

We developed a logistics web portal for R&M Forwarding. Linked to this portal is an EDI interface with Port of Rotterdam (Portbase). This EDI interface links customers’ ERP packages (Profix, Greencommerce, Navision) to R&M Forwarding’s web portal. In this way, logistics services are automated in a way that saves an enormous amount of time. Want to know more about EDI?
